How to Make Your Home Feel Extravagant for the Holidays

There’s no time quite like the holidays. The holidays are a celebratory time at the end of the year. It’s the chance for family members and friends to connect with each other. It’s also the perfect time to enjoy gifts, good food and great entertainment. The decorations are one of the most beloved parts of the season. If you’re itching to make your home look as extravagant as possible, consider the following tips.

1. Pick a Color Scheme

Red and green are some of the most popular colors of the holiday season. If you’re looking for a classic appeal, you can use those colors as your base. However, it’s okay to try different options.

An all-white Christmas is another popular color scheme. If you’d like to do a moody theme, mix colors such as burgundy, mauve and royal blue together. A patterned theme works beautifully too. Options like leopard print, houndstooth and plaid are all excellent options to consider.

2. Place Ornaments in Large, Clear Vases

Ornaments aren’t solely for the tree. Purchase really large clear vases. Along with some battery-operated string lights, place a ton of ornaments in the vases. They can easily serve as their own centerpieces on various tables throughout the home as well.

3. Create Stunning Floral Arrangements

If you don’t know much about how to create your own floral arrangements, you have two choices. You can get professionals to do the work for you or DIY it yourself with some YouTube tutorials.

By enlisting the help of professionals, place stunning floral arrangements in corners, coffee tables and dining room tables. In addition to using the classic poinsettias in your arrangements, consider options like calla lily decor to add an extra touch of elegance to your living space.

4. Add Lots of Greenery

Greenery is a staple during the holiday season. Since there are so many faux options, just purchase a bunch of faux greenery that you can reuse from year to year. Place greenery on top of the fireplace mantle.

Create centerpieces with it. Line the interior doorways with greenery. Hang some mistletoe in a few spots of the home. Incorporating green elements make the home look more cozy and alive during the holidays.

5. Incorporate Candles

Candles are simple yet elegant. They’re easily festive as well. From tapered candle sticks to scented candle jars, be liberal about the way you add candles to your decor. Just be sure that when you use real candles, never leave them lit unattended.

During your holiday dinner, create centerpieces that include some floating candles. Floating candles add the elements of fire and water in the most fascinating way.

6. Put Up Multiple Trees

Depending on the size of your home, consider putting up multiple trees. If you have a playroom for your children, give them their own Christmas tree as well.

You can opt to decorate the trees according to the decor of the room they’re placed in. Make the trees unique by adding different types of tree toppers for each tree.

7. Light Up the Decor

In each window, place a white battery-operated candle. It’s a really simple way to light up the exterior without a ton of hassle. Plus, when it’s battery-operated, you won’t run up your electric bill.

Add lights to all of the trees (inside and outside). If you have large staircases with winding banisters, add a long string of Christmas lights down the banisters. Add ribbons and greenery in order to conceal the strings a bit more.

8. Hang Indoor and Outdoor Wreaths

It’s pretty common to see wreaths outside of the home. However, take time to hang wreaths inside your home as well. Get creative with the way you create your wreaths. While greenery is stunningly beautiful, consider wreaths made of large ribbons, pinecones or candy canes.

Have fun with the ideas you incorporate in order to create elegant options by adding trinkets and themes that nod to the season.

Bottom Line

You don’t have to be an interior designer to make your home look ornately festive. When you take time to create a plan and patiently put everything together, you can truly create a beautiful ambiance throughout your home. Always remember to have lots of fun as you don’t want this to become a stressful process. Once it’s all complete, take lots of pictures to preserve the joy and beauty of the holiday season in your home.
